A Study on Meaning in life, Ego integrity and IADL of Elderly in home

Abstract
This study was done to confirm relation of meaning in life, ego integrity and IADL of the Elderly. The result yields basic data for development of nursing therapy for elderly.
The subject, included 198 elderly. This data was collected from May 5 to the 23, 2004.
Tools used for this study included Choi et al¡¯s MIL scale, Kim¡¯s ego integrity scale and et al¡¯s IADL index.
Data analyzed percentage, mean, S.D., t-test, ANOVA, pearson¡¯s coefficient correlation and stepwise multiple regression.
The results were as follows :
1. Marks of the meaning in life of elderly comes to 100.18(¡¾12.43), ego integrity comes to 83.20(¡¾9.98) and IADL comes to 18.84(¡¾4.23).
2. Meaning in life, ego integrity and IADL were showed statistically significant difference in sex, decoding a letter, education, attend the social activity, social support, content of social support, and exercise.
3. There was a high positive correlation among ego integrity, IADL, and meaning in life.
4. Important variables affecting meaning in life were ¡®ego integrity¡¯ which accounted for 63.5%, ¡®content of social support¡¯ which accounted for 2.7%, ¡®IADL¡¯ which accounted for 1.6% and ¡®health state¡¯ which accounted for 1.2% among the total variances in the stepwise multiple regression analysis.
